Hunter King will not return to "The Young and the Restless" in the spring of 2022 as the ambitious Summer Newman Abbott, wife of Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor). Why is the role of Summer being recast, and why did King leave the CBS soap in the first place?
King first joined the soap in 2012 as a teenaged Summer, but left in 2016 to focus on her role as Clementine Hughes in the series "Life In Pieces," before returning in 2018. King's final guest appearance on "The Young and the Restless" was in Fall 2021.
King says she has no regrets about her time on "The Young and the Restless" and that she will always cherish her role as Summer. "I love playing Summer, she's a big part of me for the last [...] almost a decade," King said. "I do hope to always have Summer in my life in some capacity."
While King isn't ruling out a return to the show in the future, she wants to try other things for now. "I just feel like I'm in a stage of growth in my life in many ways [...] now I feel it's time for me to grow in other ways and put myself in uncomfortable situations," the star said.
