Gavin Newsom's Latest Move Is Sparking Presidential Race Rumors
Lifestyle - News
California mayor and governor Gavin Newsom made history in 2004 when he opened the door for San Fracisco to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples. In addition to tackling issues in the Golden State, Newsom has boldly voiced his opinions on national issues, including his outrage over the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Newsom's outspokenness has some people wondering if the governor will throw his hat into the ring for the 2024 presidential race. Newsom has claimed that running for president is "not even on my radar," but now, he's spending around $105,000 on television ads that will run on Fox News in Florida, leading to much public discussion over his prospects.
"The Governor who said he has 'subzero interest' in running for President will reportedly air ads in a state [...] 2,700 miles away from his own," Nextstar Media Group's Ashley Zavala tweeted, summing up the intrigue of the situation. Newsom's criticism of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is expected to run for president, has also piqued interest about Newsom's next move.
