Queer Eye Season 6 - Here's What We Can Tell Fans So Far
Never fear, "Queer Eye" is here! The Fab Five have made it to another season of their reality makeover series, and we're hoping for more excitement than ever for the show's sixth outing. The reality makeover series — which is a Netflix reboot of "Queer Eye for The Straight Guy," a reality television show which ran on Bravo from 2003 to 2007 — was nominated for six Emmy Awards in 2021, including outstanding host for a reality or competition program for the Fab Five. Of course, the ensemble consists of Bobby Berk, the interior design extraordinaire, Karamo Brown, the culture and lifestyle guru, Jonathan Van Ness, the grooming and hair hero, Antoni Porowski, the kitchen connoisseur, and Tan France, the sartorial savior.
And it looks like the fans aren't the only ones desperate for the release of "Queer Eye" Season 6. "I honestly think it might be our best season yet," Berk told People ahead of the TV Academy Reception Honoring 73rd Emmy Awards Nominees. "The year off was crazy but it did us some good." That crazy year was, of course, due to the coronavirus pandemic, which held off the release and the filming of the latest season, per People.
Although this time around the nine-time Emmy-winning show didn't walk away with any gongs, the team of experts are still desperate to get back to changing people's lives with their talents. "Our heroes have been through a lot in the past year, but to be able to tell those stories, not just personal stories, but business stories, family stories, stories of loss, stories of triumph ... the stories all mean a little bit more this year I think," Berk added to People.

You'll have to wait until next year for the Queer Eye Season 6
Unfortunately, like many other shows in production at the time, the pandemic halted filming for "Queer Eye" Season 6. Fans were treated to a 10-episode Season 5 of the show in June 2021 to keep us going through quarantine, but unfortunately, production was unable to be kept up on the show's usual schedule of two series per year, due to the restrictions that came due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Per RadioTimes, the production and the Fab Five resumed filming for Season 6 of the show on April 23, 2021. Netflix usually tends to release a series in the summer months (July for Season 4, June for Season 5) which has come and gone now, so it would be likely that fans could expect Season 6 to roll out later this year, perhaps in time for the autumn schedule, or in early 2022. According to Variety, no release date has been confirmed yet, so fans are just going to have to remain patient.
Don't worry, the Fab Five are staying together
Each of the five LGBTQIA+ hosts have had multiple successes outside of "Queer Eye" since Season 1 of the show aired in 2018. Hair guru Jonathan Van Ness is busy with their own hair-care line in partnership with Biossance, JVN Hair (via Allure) and went on tour, and interior designer Bobby Berk has his own line of furniture as well as a partnership with AllModern. Karamo Brown ended his 10-year relationship with fiancé Ian Jordan last year (and is smitten in a budding relationship with photographer Carlos Medel) and as noted by E! News, Brown appeared on "Dancing With the Stars" too! Tan France became a father with his husband, Rob France, in the summer of 2021, and the two are adjusting to parenthood, whereas Antoni Porowski released a baby of his own, his highly anticipated cookbook, "Let's Do Dinner."
With each of the experts so busy outside of "Queer Eye," fans might be wondering whether any of the Fab Five would be moving on from the show. Thankfully, the answer is no (for now, anyway). Season 6 was confirmed a go with all members of the Fab Five ready for filming and productions, and it looks like it will be that way for a while. If anything, Season 6 allowed the Fav Five to really sink their teeth into the show's process, and France told Variety that the season was "transformative."
"Season 6 galvanized me," France said. "I haven't felt that in quite some time doing any project. It felt really big. The show felt big this season, and I don't know how else to articulate it. It felt different and felt big. It felt like we were serving a greater purpose than just one singular person each episode."
Queer Eye Season 6 is heading to the Lone Star State
The original show, "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," which Netflix's "Queer Eye" is based on, was filmed in the New York area. In contrast, Seasons 1 and 2 of the reboot were filmed in Atlanta and neighboring Georgia towns. After Netflix renewed the series for Season 3, it was reported that it would be filmed in Kansas City, Missouri (per NPR), and Season 4 followed suit. For Season 5, the Fab Five moved to Philadelphia to help the people of Pennsylvania's largest city.
Netflix announced in March 2020 that the series would be returning to the streaming platform for Season 6 (per Entertainment Weekly), but the Fab Five would be moving to Texas to take on their makeover reality show. The five hosts shared the announcement with fans on the "Queer Eye" Instagram, writing, "Grab a Texas-sized box of tissues y'all because the Fab 5 just arrived in the Lone Star State to film Queer Eye Season 6! (oh and P.S. Queer Eye Season 5 is coming real soon)." Filming began in Austin last year, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and picked up in April 2021.
