The Drama Between Kourtney Kardashian, Travis Barker, And Scott Disick Explained

If there is one family that attracts attention unlike any other, it's the Kardashians. The clan of billionaire sisters has reeled fans in for years, thanks to their hit reality show, their individual businesses, and, of course, their juicy personal lives. Kourtney Kardashian, the eldest of the sisters, the founder of Poosh, and the mom to three adorable kids with ex Scott Disick, is one such sister whose dating life has been in the headlines as of late. Since her very public split with Disick in 2015, Kardashian has been both on and off the dating scene, where she has been attached to several A-listers, including model Younes Bendjima. But it's her current (as of publication) relationship with musician Travis Barker that has fans invested, and given how enamored with each other the two seem to be, it's not hard to understand why.

But, as some may have imagined, the one person not obsessed with Barker and Kardashian is Disick. The drama and, dare we say, jealousy dates back to before Barker and Kardashian were even a couple, so let's dive in and get a sense of what's really going on. This is the drama between Kourtney Kardashian, Travis Barker, and Scott Disick explained.

Even before Kourtney and Travis got together, Scott wasn't super supportive of his ex dating

Fans of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" thought that Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick were meant to be. It seems that Disick may have felt the same way, as before Kardashian was even dating Travis Barker, Disick had thoughts about his ex's dating life that he was not shy about sharing. As noted by PopSugar, Disick shared his true feelings about Kardashian's dating life during an episode of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," telling her that it was painful for him to see her with other men. "In my head, seeing you around any guy bothers me," Disick told his ex, with whom he shares three children. "It hurt me when you were with somebody else, and waking up to looking at pictures of you with this guy you were dating, you know, it was just unhealthy and it just made me upset and sad."

Remember, Disick said all of this before Kardashian started dating Barker — the guy in question at the time was rumored to be a lifeguard that the reality star had flirted with. With this in mind, it's no wonder that Disick wasn't the biggest fan of his ex's impending relationship.

Scott could tell that the relationship between Kourtney and Travis was 'different'

Having flings and on-again, off-again relationships is nothing new for the Kardashian sisters, but things changed for Kourtney Kardashian when she met and started dating Travis Barker. This was no ordinary fling, and their feelings toward each other became so strong so quickly that even Scott Disick noticed that something had shifted in his ex.

An inside source told People back in April 2021 that Disick had "struggled" over Kardashian's relationship with Barker and was even "jealous" of the attachment between them. It surely didn't help, as well, that fans of Kardashian were ecstatic about the new union. "With Travis, [Disick] is struggling even more. Before Travis, Kardashian's relationships were never serious. It was more like flings. With Travis, it's different," the inside source said. "Scott was pretty shocked when he found out that they are dating, and he can tell that they have moved very quickly."

The source went on to share that another painful aspect for Disick was his kids' close relationships with Barker, who were described as loving the musician. "Kourtney and Travis are like a family with the kids," the source shared. "Scott is having a hard time with this situation."

Although Scott started dating Amelia Hamlin, he still had regrets about his past with Kourtney

While the star that was (and is) Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's relationship continued to rise, Scott Disick, himself, began to explore a relatively new romantic relationship. As noted by People, Disick started dating Amelia Hamlin, the 20-year-old daughter of stars Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin. It seemed that things between Disick and Hamlin were going well, with the reality star and father even "telling friends how much [Amelia] means to him and how into her he is." He reportedly furthered his comments by saying that the relationship was "getting serious" between him and the young influencer (much to her mother's dismay).

Although Disick and Hamlin's budding relationship was seemingly going well while Kardashian and Barker's relationship started picking up steam, Disick still seemed hung up on his ex. As People noted, a source told the publication that Disick "has many regrets" when it comes to Kardashian and that he even thought that one day, they'd put aside their differences and make up. "He knows that he messed up their relationship and let her down," the inside source shared. "For a long time, he still hoped that they would end up back together."

Kourtney seemed unbothered by Scott's new fling, which irritated Scott

Scott Disick was (and is) clearly bothered by Kourtney Kardashian's relationship with Travis Barker, but while the "Flip It Like Disick" star was still romantically involved with Amelia Hamlin, Kardashian didn't seem to mind at all. As noted by Entertainment Tonight, the two couples interacted at Disick's 38th birthday party, and Kardashian was completely "unbothered" by her ex's new fling (she really is a queen, if you ask us). "It's not weird for her to see them together by any means," an inside source shared about Kardashian's feelings toward her ex's relationship.

Meanwhile, Disick wasn't so peachy keen about Kardashian's relationship with Barker (surprise, surprise) and, apparently, the birthday party was "a little awkward" for him. "He wishes Kourtney was more affected by [his relationship with Hamlin], like he is about Kourtney and Travis," the source shared, clearly showing that there was some animosity (and a twinge of jealousy and middle school-esque drama) on Disick's part. As for Kardashian? She was in "her own world" with Barker, despite her ex being "a little skeptical of their relationship and hurt by it."

After seeing Kourtney with Travis for months, Scott seemingly gave the couple his blessing

Despite Scott Disick's relationship of his own with Amelia Hamlin, it appears that he still struggled to accept his ex's flawless ability to move on. But, as noted by Bustle, the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" reunion show seemed to mark a shift in Disick's perspective of Kourtney Kardashian's new man. When asked if he supported Kardashian's relationship, Disick said, "I mean, yeah. I think if you really love somebody, you want them to be happy no matter what. So I do give her a blessing to be happy."

Sounds lukewarm, but it was definitely better than the reports of catty drama that had plagued Disick previously. Of course, it didn't help that Kardashian admitted during the reunion episode that if the cameras hadn't been as involved in her life with Disick, she may very well still be with him today. However, she did expand on Disick's substance abuse, saying that it was "the dealbreaker" when the two split up back in 2015.

Scott's relationship with Amelia Hamlin appeared to be going strong

After the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" reunion show aired and Scott Disick appeared (however unenthusiasticly) to support Kourtney Kardashian's relationship with Travis Barker, it seemed as though the dust was starting to settle between him and the couple. Of course, as most Kardashian fans know, she and Disick have three kids together — Mason Dash, Penelope Scotland, and Reign Aston — and, perhaps, in an attempt to move on from his feelings toward his ex and Barker, Disick seemed to throw his attention onto his kids and his girlfriend's relationship with them.

As noted by People, one such example of Amelia Hamlin's involvement in Disick's kids' lives is the sweet post he shared in honor of Penelope's birthday. Disick took to Instagram to post a cute pic of his daughter, with the caption, "My life my love my everything. You have changed my life forever peep." Hamlin took to the comments and wrote a note that alluded to the time she spent with the little girl. "Little peesh," Hamlin wrote, using one of Penelope's nicknames. "Happy birthday to the best facialist in town."

Things between Kourtney and Scott quickly went downhill after this social media debacle

If fans thought that things between Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick were stabilizing, they were wrong, because the Instagram DM scandal involving Disick and Kardashian's former boyfriend, Younes Bendjima, was just around the corner.

As People explained, Bendjima took to his Instagram Stories in August 2021 to share screenshots of his private DMs, which included messages from Disick, who reportedly contacted Bendjima regarding Kardashian and Travis Barker — specifically about their PDA-packed trip to Europe at the time — and the messages were less than flattering. "Yo is this chick ok!???? Broooo like what is this," Disick wrote to Bendjima, alongside a photo of Kardashian and Barker. "In the middle of Italy." Bendjima responded to Disick with a curt response. "Doesn't matter to me as long as she's happy. P.S. I ain't your bro."

Yikes... talk about going downhill quickly. Bendjima went on to say, alongside posting the screenshots, that Disick should "keep the same energy you had about me publicly, privately," alluding to past tension between the two of them. Of all things to do to your ex, trying to appeal to former partners for sympathy or understanding is absolutely not the move.

Kourtney and Travis seemingly tried to move on amid the Scott DM drama

Anyone who's experienced a nasty breakup knows that it's super easy to get roped into dealing with your ex again. Adding on the very public aspect of the Kourtney Kardashian/Scott Disick/Travis Barker love triangle, and you've pretty much got scandal waiting to happen. But after Younes Bendjima went public with Disick's DMs regarding Kardashian and Barker, the happy couple appeared to go on with their European vacation and enjoy it as best they could.

As noted by E! News, the very same day that the messages were released, the two were spotted at Disneyland Paris looking absolutely adorable in their matching Mickey Mouse ears. They had previously spent time in Italy, and, from what we could tell, were already prepared to put the drama behind them. A source close to the couple told E! News that Kardashian was well aware that Disick "still has issues accepting her love with Travis," but was very disappointed that he felt the need to reach out to Bendjima. "She just wishes he would know better than to reach out to Younes of all people. Younes can never be trusted and Scott knows that," the source said.

Sources revealed that Kourtney planned to confront Scott over the DMs to her other ex

It's safe to say that most people found Scott Disick's DMs to Younes Bendjima pretty desperate. While Disick had made it clear in the past that he had mixed feelings about Kourtney Kardashian's relationship with Travis Barker, reaching out to another ex to spill dirt over Kardashian was not the move. She clearly thought so, and, while she did what she needed to do to enjoy the remainder of her European vacation, sources revealed to People that Kardashian had every intention of later confronting Disick about the incident.

One inside source told People that the reality star was "surprised, but not shocked" by Disick's behavior (we all have the one ex who is highly predictable), and, while she knew that he'd always "had a difficult time accepting" that she was "happy with someone else," the DM move was not okay. "Kourtney is disappointed that he engages in drama when they have been doing well co-parenting," a source shared, adding that Kardashian is fully aware that Disick "is especially threatened by her relationship with Travis" and that "she doesn't get why he felt the need to reach out to Younes."

Travis appeared to respond to Scott's DM drama with a subtle social media move

There's something to be said about the power of social media. It has the ability to completely alter the course of someone's immediate circumstances and also ruin people's lives altogether. There is such an art when it comes to social media that many of us oftentimes find ourselves decrypting what musicians, politicians, and celebrities post — and this was the case when Travis Barker took to Instagram to seemingly address Scott Disick.

As noted by Page Six, Barker stayed relatively quiet on social media following the Disick/Younes Bendjima debacle, but he did take to his Instagram Stories with the laughing meme image from the hit movie "Goodfellas," with many interpreting that to be his response to the situation. The image in question, of course, is of actor Ray Liotta and his character's full-faced (fairly scary looking, if you ask us) laugh. The musician didn't add any text, comment, or note to the photo, but rather let the meme do all the talking for him. It has been, as of publication, one of the only ways in which Barker has publicly alluded to the debacle that Disick instigated. In all honesty, its subtlety was pretty powerful.

After the DM drama, Scott swiftly changed his tune about his thoughts on Kourtney and Travis

It seems as though Scott Disick tried to be okay with Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian's relationship — he even had a girlfriend himself — but the DM disaster clearly showed he still had some unresolved feelings. And after the dust settled from the PR nightmare, word is that Disick had not a kind word to say about Barker.

A source told Us Weekly that, while Disick was "definitely embarrassed" by what had happened with Younes Bendjima, the "heated moment" was his attempt to reach out to someone else who might "react the same way" he felt regarding Kardashian and Barker's relationship. "Scott's sick of seeing photos of them splashed everywhere. He hates Travis," the inside source shared. "But what's really got him riled up is the effect Travis and Kourtney's relationship is having on his relationship with Kourtney." Of course, the inside source also shared Kardashian's likely thoughts on the matter, sharing that she was "probably just laughing" at the ridiculous behavior and "going about her business with Travis."

We love an unbothered queen. The source revealed that, while Kardashian was "pissed" that Disick's true thoughts about her relationship were made public, it wasn't news to her.

Scott's drama over Kourtney and Travis began to impact his own relationship

We should note that while all of this drama occurred between Scott Disick, Kourtney Kardashian, and Travis Barker, Disick was still trying to maintain his relationship with Amelia Hamlin. As noted by People, the two were together throughout Disick's DMing disaster — which, we can only imagine, made things really tense and awkward between them — and, as a result, the couple hit "a rocky patch."

A source shared that Hamlin — whose family was never thrilled with the relationship in the first place, via Insider — was especially displeased with his behavior, some of which concerned his public comments about his ex. Explaining what caused the "rocky patch," the source said at the time, "It's partly because of the Kourtney drama but also just 'Scott being Scott.' They're not fully over yet, but Amelia isn't happy with him." The source went on to share that Disick and Hamlin had spent time apart, and, although "everything seemed fine" just days before, "all of a sudden, they seem to be having issues." One such issue, the source noted, was the couple's traveling separately to the East Coast, rather than together, from their home in Los Angeles.

Amelia Hamlin eventually called it quits with Scott amid the drama

It seems as though Scott Disick and Amelia Hamlin hit a wall, because, not long after his embarrassing show of judgment against ex Kourtney Kardashian and her current beau, Travis Barker, Hamlin called it quits with Disick. A number of sources confirmed to People that Hamlin "broke up with [Disick]," noting that it was her call. The couple had been together for almost a year, after meeting at Kendall Jenner's birthday party in October 2020. The relationship had always been a source of discomfort for some, given the massive age gap between the two (18 years!) and Hamlin's family's clear distaste for the relationship.

Hamlin clearly shifted in her feelings toward Disick over time, even taking to social media to post some cryptic messages about what had occurred behind closed doors. One such example took the form of an Instagram Story, where Hamlin posted a quote saying, "Never settle for less. Not with your job, your friends, and especially not with your heart." Clearly, her heart and her mind were made up.

Fans are apparently expecting Scott's response to Kourtney and Travis' PDA-filled VMA appearance

Given that Scott Disick has made it clear he has no problem expressing his rather negative opinion about Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker, it makes sense that his comments about Kardashian and Barker's PDA-filled appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards are, well, expected. According to Grazia, the dazzling couple showed up in "rockstar"-esque outfits, clad in leather and studs galore. They posed for photos in the most "them" way possible — with tongues and affection and hands grabbing everywhere. They certainly did not leave any room for interpretation as to their feelings for one another — and this is usually where a "cue Disick" situation would pop up.

Of course, Disick might also have some thoughts about Kardashian's reference to Barker as her "future baby daddy," a sentiment shared while she introduced Barker and Machine Gun Kelly alongside Megan Fox during the awards show. As Glamour noted, Fox said, "New York, I need you to get extra loud for our future baby daddies," followed by Kardashian's enthusiastically saying their names. Time will tell if Disick makes his thoughts on the couple's latest PDA-packed public outing known.
