What Was The Inspiration Behind Kim Kardashian's Unusual Met Gala Look?

Kim Kardashian's name goes hand-in-hand with fashion. The reality TV star has always been known for her daring and sexy looks, and over the years fans have watched her style evolve from wearing velour tracksuits to stunning couture. She's even started her own clothing line called Skims, where she sells shapewear and more. However, the KKW Beauty founder has admitted that she had a lot of regret when it comes to some of her previous fashion choices. "I definitely have style regrets," Kardashian told Insider. "I mean, I wear some things and I'm just like, 'Why did I wear that?”' Kardashian went on to admit that she felt that "anywhere from 2007 to 2011, 2012" were her worst years when it comes to fashion.

At the moment, Kardashian admits that she has toned down her look to accommodate her very busy life with four children, North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm. "My style now has been very low-key," Kardashian stated, claiming that she is "so busy running around being a mom" that she's become accustomed to choosing clothing that is "easy to put on." However, Kardashian still isn't opposed to showing off her body. "I feel like I'm in really good shape right now, like the best shape I've ever been, so I do wear a crop top a lot," she admitted.

While Kardashian may be feeling a simple look as of late, this week she appeared at the Met Gala in an outfit that was anything but low-key.

Kanye helped design Kim's outfit

This week, Kim Kardashian dropped the jaws of fans when she showed up to the Met Gala wearing an all-black ensemble that included a mask that completely covered her face and head (via Us Weekly). The Balenciaga dress featured a long trail and hugged the reality star's curves tightly. However, Kardashian's famous face was entirely covered, leaving only her long, dark ponytail free. The KKW Beauty founder also wore gloves to cover her hands and matching heeled boots. The dress may have been one of Kardashian's most understated looks, but the face mask meant that she commanded attention, despite the minimalist gown.

According to the Daily Mail, Kardashian's interesting look was inspired by none other than her estranged husband, Kanye West. West has been a huge influence over Kardashian's style since they began their relationship and their impending divorce hasn't seemed to change that at all. In fact, West has also been seen rocking all-black looks with his face completely covered as well. In addition, Kardashian was spotted wearing a similar style at the listening party of West's latest album, "Donda" back in August.

Kardashian added a photo of herself wearing the outfit to her Instagram account and tagged Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia in the post. Vogue reports that West worked with Gvasalia to create the look, especially for Kardashian. Gvasalia also wore a matching masked ensemble and walked the carpet with Kardashian at the event (via E! News). It seems that Kardashian and West are on good terms despite their split and that West may continue to use his ex as his fashion muse in the future.
