Twitter Can't Stop Talking About Princess Charlotte's Key Accessory At The Queen's Funeral

As the famous children's author E.B. White once wrote, "Hang on to your hat. Hang on to your hope. And wind the clock, for tomorrow is another day."

On September 19, Princess Charlotte of Wales arrived at the funeral of her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, donning an all-black outfit to commemorate the somber occasion. But it was an accessory that really had Twittersphere talking. "Little Charlotte's hat is making me the saddest," one user tweeted. Meanwhile, another wrote, "Princess Charlotte's hat is iconic though." But that's not all. Along with the hat, Princess Charlotte wore a brooch in the shape of a horseshoe on her coat. According to Town & Country magazine, the brooch is understood to be a nod to the queen and her love of riding horses.

Princess Charlotte's outfit was full of meaning

As reported by Express, this marks the first time the princess has attended not only a state funeral but also the first time she has sported a hat and a brooch in public. As you may recall, Princess Charlotte and her royal brothers, Prince George of Wales and Prince Louis of Wales, were notably absent at Prince Philip's funeral in April 2021. It's reported that only 30 people attended the services due to COVID-19 protocols. "William told George, Charlotte, and Louis that Prince Philip has 'gone to heaven' and 'is an angel now,'" a source revealed to Us Weekly about the children's understanding of their great-grandfather's death at the time. "They're still so young."

Charlotte made sure her brother fell in line

Princess Charlotte, the daughter of the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine, stood out at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II not only because of her outfit. The adorable little girl was seen telling her older brother, Prince George, to bow at the high profile event (via People).

In her adorable all-black outfit with the fashionable hat and brooch, Charlotte was heard telling George, "You need to bow." The sweet moment came as the coffin of their great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, passed by.

Charlotte is quite the royal expert. She had to correct George on the balcony during Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year (per Us Weekly). As the national anthem, "God Save the Queen," played, Prince George had his bands on the balcony ledge. Charlotte would not have that, so she told him to remedy his posture. You could see the little boy pick himself up.

During the Platinum Jubilee, her little brother, Prince Louie, stole the show with his silly behavior. However, Charlotte set an example of how she believed her siblings should behave, both at the jubilee and at their great-grandmother's funeral.

Charlotte's outfit wasn't the only mature thing about her at the funeral

Princess Charlotte's debut in an adorable hat at Queen Elizabeth II's funeral did not come without some minor adjustments. An adorable moment was captured between her and her uncle, the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry (via Hello! Magazine). Sitting in the same pew at the funeral, she was seen adjusting her hat before making eye contact with the duke, who flashed her an adorable smile. The sweet moment was captured on-camera for the world to see.

While royal fans could not stop talking about how adorable and mature Princess Charlotte looked at the funeral wearing her first classic hat and beautiful piece of jewelry, there was a chance that she and her brother, Prince George, may have been kept home from the service.

According to People, Catherine and William considered keeping the kids at home, but since she and George had attended the funeral of Prince Philip, they were able to come, though their youngest, Prince Louie, was not in attendance.

Princess Charlotte didn't only look grown up in her funeral attire, but she also helped her brother act a bit more mature at the important event.
